WOYWW #260 - No, She isn't writing the Declaration of Independence!

Hi! I have really come to enjoy Wednesdays for it is the day we all share what is on our work desks.  Last week I was away on vacation and unable to hop around and check out what each of you was up to, and so I am anxious to do that this week.

My husband and I were in Colonial Williamsburg, VA for 5 days.  It is one of my favorite places to visit. The beauty, the history, yummy food and wonderful people.  I also love the slower pace compared to NYC. I love to recharge my battery, so to speak.

My desk is covered with my bounty that I picked up in Virginia. You may even spot a quill pen and ink well my husband picked me up after we attended a demonstration of how they were used.  Lots of penmanship books, packs of amazing linen paper, and I even kept the wrapping off a book as it was a copy of an old newspaper.  Too cool to toss.  Not sure what I will do with it.

Tea Time Tuesday - Afternoon Royal Tea

I have been rather quiet lately as I was away on vacation with my husband in Colonial Williamsburg, VA. It is a magical place to me, as this is my eighth visit and I never tire of it.  Currently, I am counting the days until I can return there!

One year my mom took me for tea at The Williamsburg Inn, and I loved it.  Now, my husband and I make it a point to plan an afternoon visit there for their Afternoon Royal Tea.  It is such a beautiful inn, and even Queen Elizabeth has had tea there when she visited.

The setting was lovely and the view of their gardens amazing.  The food was delicious and the tea was very nice.  I went for the Earl Grey as that is my favorite.

The weather in Virginia was very hot, and the slowing down in mid-afternoon for tea was just what I needed.  There is very little in life that is better that a leisurely tea with your sweetie.  I am very glad mine likes to join me in this ritual.

These yummy treats really bolstered me up for what was to come that evening.  My husband and I took part in an evening program called In Defense of Our Liberty in which we joined George Washington's militia! Yep, it must have been a sight to see me try and march and follow orders.  I was very clumsy and off count in my marching, and nearly fainted when the officers came at me with bayonets (I am short so I was in the front row!). It was a real eye opener for me and I can't tell you how much I thanked our soldiers past, present and future that night.

Our Colonial Williamsburg Vacation

Hi, guys! Hope you are all having a nice holiday weekend.  My husband and I were on vacation this week in Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia.  It is one of my favorite places to visit as I just love the way history comes to life right in front of you!  The gardens there are simply amazing.  Great people, sunny weather and delicious food all added to the great time we had there.  I thought I would share some of my photos and experiences with you today.

The gardens are plentiful there.  There are formal gardens at the Governor's Palace, and many informal gardens throughout the Colonial area.

They also have tons of vegetable and kitchen gardens there, too!  I love this shot of some of their cabbages!

Each day the Revolutionary City came alive with conversations with our founding fathers, re-enactments and even parades!  We all took part in a march with the fife & drum corps to the Capitol to hear the reading of the Declaration of Independence.  It is truly one of the most touching activities we took part in and one I will never tire of.

There are plenty of animals throughout the Colonial area.  They have a rare breed program where they are working on keeping some animals from becoming extinct.   We got to take a carriage ride and learned that our pair of horses were the ones who pulled Queen Elizabeth's carriage when she visited Williamsburg!

If you ever get the opportunity to visit, I highly recommend you make sure you see and experience a visit with Patrick Henry.  He is very moving and inspiring.  After hearing him speak (this was my fifth visit), I came home wanting to write letters on matters that I feel need to be addressed in various areas of government!

Before I end,  I want to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for us to enjoy the freedoms and liberty we have here in the United States.  Thank you to all our military and their families and may we all remember them tomorrow as we celebrate Memorial Day.
